In order to take full advantage of the information published in the RSC e-journals and ESI service you may need to use a plug-in for your web browser. Plug-ins are additional free software packages that allow a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to view special files (e.g. 3D diagrams). The current plug-ins that may be needed are:
In order to use these plug-ins you must be using either Netscape Navigator (version 3 to 4.7) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4 to 5.5 SP1) web browsers. These browsers can be obtained from the Netscape and Microsoft home pages respectively.
To download one of the plug-ins, click on the appropriate link to get to the software providers home page. From there, follow the links to the appropriate plug-in for your operating system (e.g. Macintosh or Windows 95) and download the plug-in software to your computer's hard disk.
Once the plug-in software has been downloaded, it must then be installed before it can be used to view files with your web browser. Instructions on how to do this will be available from where the software was downloaded. The process differs for different operating systems and plug-ins, but in the case of Macintosh and PC computers this generally involves running the single file downloaded, which will be a self-extracting install program.
Once installed, the plug-in will automatically be used by your web browser whenever it needs to display a file that requires it. You will not need to download the plug-in again.
