Papers
High-precision analysis of chromium isotopes in terrestrial and meteorite samples by thermal ionization mass spectrometry
Anne Trinquier, Jean-Louis Birck and Claude Jean Allègre,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1565
DOI: 10.1039/b809755k

We present a method to purify Cr and measure Cr isotope ratios to high precision, while minimizing potential sources of non-correctable isotopic fractionation associated with mass spectrometry and chromatography.
The determination of polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners by gas chromatography inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry
Robert F. Swarthout, Jr., John R. Kucklick and W. Clay Davis,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1575
DOI: 10.1039/b809173k

A comparison of GC-ICP-MS and GC-NCI-MS for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and the application of GC-ICP-MS for the analysis of PBDEs in two NIST SRMs is presented.
Determination of sulfur in fluid inclusions by laser ablation ICP-MS
Marcel Guillong, Christopher Latkoczy, Jung Hun Seo, Detlef Günther and Christoph A. Heinrich,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1581
DOI: 10.1039/b807383j

The quantitative sulfur determination in quartz hosted fluid inclusions with laser ablation and two different ICP-MS is presented. Important issues such as interferences, host correction and blank levels are discussed.
Development of a new laser induced electron impact ionization source for studying the hot-wire chemical vapor deposition chemistry of silane–ammonia mixtures
B. D. Eustergerling, M. Hedén and Y. J. Shi,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1590
DOI: 10.1039/b809597c

A new laser induced electron impact ionization source with excellent detection sensitivity is developed and used to examine the gas-phase HWCVD chemistry involving NH3/SiH4 mixtures.
Laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-dynamic reaction cell-mass spectrometry for the determination of platinum group metals and gold in NiS buttons obtained by fire assay of platiniferous ores
Martín Resano, Esperanza García-Ruiz, Keith S. McIntosh and Frank Vanhaecke,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1599
DOI: 10.1039/b807003b

This paper describes the development and validation of an approach for the simultaneous multi-element determination of PGMs in platiniferous ores, based on NiS fire assay, subsequent grinding and pelletization of the raw buttons, and final analysis of the pellets.
Evaluation of the analytical performance of femtosecond laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry at 785 nm with glass reference materials
Mohamed Shaheen, Joel E. Gagnon, Zhaoping Yang and Brian J. Fryer,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1610
DOI: 10.1039/b809880h

This study critically evaluates the robustness of NIR fs-LA-ICP-MS as an analytical method, for as large an element suite as feasible and at concentrations ranging from many mg g-1 to 10's of ng g-1, for a range of silicate glass matrices.
High precision determination of chromium isotope ratios in geological samples by MC-ICP-MS
Ludwik Halicz, Lu Yang, Nataliya Teplyakov, Avihu Burg, Ralph Sturgeon and Yehoshua Kolodny,
J. Anal. At. Spectrom., 2008, 23, 1622
DOI: 10.1039/b808351g

Significant differences in chromium isotope ratios were found in the geological samples between shale and its natural combustion products. This capability for determination of Cr isotope ratios will foster use of Cr isotopes to trace the geochemical cycling of Cr.
