Dr David Husain 1937-2007
08 February 2008

It is with sadness that the Royal Society of Chemistry has learned of the death of Dr David Husain ScD, Emeritus Reader in Physical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge.
Dr Husain was a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry since 1959. As well as being a prolific author in Faraday Transactions - the predecessor journal to PCCP - and a regular attendee at Faraday Discussions and Symposia, he received the RSC Corday-Morgan and Tilden Prizes.
His research focussed on the investigation of fundamental reactions by spectroscopic methods and was of importance in areas such as atmospheric and interstellar chemistry, flames, jet exhaust, aspects of atomic power plant, the silicon industry and lasers.
A selection of notable papers published by Dr Husain in RSC journals are given below:
Collisional quenching of electronically excited nitrogen atoms, N(22DJ, 22PJ) by time-resolved atomic absorption spectroscopy
