How it Works

Michael Faraday
The call for abstracts of papers is issued with a deadline of eleven months before the date of the meeting. The highest quality abstracts that fit most closely with the themes of the meeting are selected for oral presentation.

Authors of the selected abstracts then submit their work as full papers - these form the basis of the short presentations at the meeting. Each paper must contain new, unpublished work and be submitted five months before the date of the meeting.

The papers selected for presentation and discussion are refereed and then sent to participants as pre-prints four weeks before the meeting. The discussion is conducted on the assumption that the papers have been read in advance and only five minutes are allowed for each presentation.

Other participants can make brief presentations (up to five minutes) on matters directly relevant to the papers under discussion, which might include complementary or contradictory measurements or calculations. Most of the time is devoted to discussion, which is published alongside the papers in the Faraday Discussion Volume approximately four months after the meeting.

The latest ISI citation data gives an impact factor for  the resultant published Faraday Discussions of 5.0, emphasising their importance as a forum for developing exciting new ideas.
