Membership of Council
Council has a maximum size of 18 members. The majority [12 members] are elected by the RSC membership at the Annual General Meeting. A minority [up to 6 members] are appointed by the Council itself. This allows Council to ensure that its make-up has the skills to carry out strategic functions while ensuring that RSC members elect the majority of Council. The normal term of office is four years. Reappointment is only possible after a two year gap.
Council is chaired by the RSC President, one of the RSC's three Honorary Officers. The RSC President spends one year as President-Elect, two years as President, then one year as Immediate Past-President.
The other Honorary Officers are the President-Elect/Immediate Past-President, depending on the point in the presidential cycle, and the Honorary Treasurer who has responsibility for advising Council on economic and financial matters. The Honorary Officers are three of the twelve elected members of Council.
